Hi friends! While I am super excited to share photos with you today, I must premise them with a bit of background info. A few months ago I stumbled upon a film camera at a thrift shop and was absolutely thrilled when I realized it still worked. That's when my dabbling in film began. When I asked fellow photographer Michelle if she would model for me on a film adventure she graciously agreed. Two seconds into the shoot I ran out of film and realized that I had absolutely no more with me(fail!). But my digital camera was along for the ride and we set out to have a shoot, so have a shoot we did. So the first few pictures below are the only film ones from that day.

I'm lovin' the natural grain and vibrant color that film produces.

This is the last film one. Film photography is definitely a (hard) work in progress, but I think I'll give it another shot(no pun intended). So be on the lookout for more film adventures here on the blog.

The picture above and below were taken moments apart, one with film, the other digital.

Michelle is a super talented photographer, so she definitely knows how to work it out for the camera.

Michelle and I bonded over our mutual love for tall grasses and fields that day.

Second Shooting| Part 3

In continuation with yesterday's post, here are a few more weddings that I shot for other photographers. This one was shot for Churchill's Photography also. The Churchill's welcomed their sweet baby Eva into their life a month earlier than they anticipated. So when they asked me to cover their previously scheduled wedding for them, I was more than happy to. Together with Jillian of Jillian Tree Photography we captured the big day of Amy and Joe.

a quick note: if you want to have beach pictures done, take the risk of rain and aim for a cloudy day!

Surprise: Double wedding post! For this wedding, I jetted up to North Carolina to second shoot this beautiful fall wedding with Wes of Wesley Stewart Photography. Taylor and Ethan got married at this gorgeous mansion: the kind you can't find in good ole Florida.

I always love father-daughter dances and love how Taylor's father tried so hard not to cry.

andrew+shanea|le wedding

Hey kids, remember the adorable shanea and andrew from my last post? Of course you do. Well two days after their fun "engagement" shoot, they repeated their vows in a quaint lil ole church in front of their dearest friends and family members.

their story goes back to the days of high school english class where they met for the first time.

andrew was dating another girl. but that was ok with shanea, because she "didn't believe in dating"...

"then she saw his face, now she's a believah!"... ok it didn't happen quite like that I'm sure, but one way or another, he convinced to not only believe in dating, but that marriage was an even better option. =D

oh, did I mention that andrew is a Marine? yeah. he is.

right before the sun gave way to complete darkness, we grabbed a few bride and groom shots

hey peeps, meet my rad friends shanea and andrew. they are freshly married and (at the risk of sounding like a valley girl) are way adorbs.

shanea and andrew got engaged and married all in one fell swoop, and didn't really pause to take engagement photos in between...

...so though they are already married in these photos, we'll call them their engagement photos, just for kicks and giggles, k? k.

shanea has such large beautiful eyes, don't you agree?

2011 A Year in Review

Have you ever had one of those dreams where you are running away from something or to something, and you know you need to run faster but somehow you just can't? In fact it even seems as if somehow you are getting slower and slower. 2011 was a lot like that kind of dream: running my short kid legs off, and never catching up. So at the risk of sounding like an over- dramatic teeny-bopper, last year was definitely one of the hardest years of my life.

2011 was a milestone for me, in that, I completed my first full wedding season. I shot 20 weddings(including being a 2nd shooter for 2 weddings) and of those 20 weddings, 10 of them were out of state. So the average wedding weekend for me was getting off of work from my day job, flying to another state, shooting a wedding, hopping back on a plane, and plopping back at my desk at my day job. So I've said all of that to say this: last year was busy- like busier than Walmart on Black Friday busy.

On top of shooting like crazy, I was also learning like crazy. But learning in the bad way-in the "from my mistakes" kind of way. And just when one mistake was resolved and my lesson significantly learned, another lesson to be learned would come rolling in, waiting to smack me silly with the rod of correction.

The ray of sunshine in this rainy parade picture I've just painted for you? I was blessed with saint brides. Seriously it was if angels descended from the heavens, got engaged, and then hired me. So for all of your immeasurable patience and understanding and mercy, dear 2011 brides, I want to genuinely say THANK YOU! Thank you for hiring me. Thank you for letting me be a part of one of the biggest milestones of your life. Thank you for trusting and believing in me, even when I was faking that I believed and trusted in myself. Thank you for being the most beautiful guinea pigs(or lab rats, take your pick), I've ever encountered. Thank you for being beautiful people, both inside and out. I adore you, ALL of you... probably more than I should! Thank you for choosing me, because without you, I am just a girl. Just a girl with a fancy camera.

Just about every wedding there is that one person who comes up to me all aghast that no one has taken a picture of the photographer(aka yours truly). Well there's a reason for that, kids. Most wedding days, I look a hot mess. I mean, I start out the day with the best intentions of looking nice and put together. You know, way profesh and all that. But then the wedding day crazies take over my good intentions and throw them into the blender and whip up something not even that cat would own up to having dragged in.
So like the thinking ahead person that I am, I avoid the cameras of others on the wedding day, for fear those pictures will surface somewhere(cough:facebook:cough) and provide me and young children with enough nightmares to last until we are both eligible for social security.

But in spite of my stealthy camera dodging skills, a few photos of me usually weasle their way onto the cameras of bystanders. Hence the photos included in this post. And just to further prove to the public at large, just how cool I am, I am releasing these exclusive photos to my blog readers first. Before they hit the tabloids, and all, ya know.

Here I am discretely checking my camera settings while waiting for the groom and groomsmen to walk in...

At the end (or near end) of the wedding day, I try to catch a quick photo with the bride and groom. I had about a 75% success rate with making this actually happen. Kids, if I didn't get a photo with you, it's not because I don't love you, it's because you got lucky and I forgot.(The noggin' ain't what it used to be). Also if I've gotten your wedding date wrong, same thing applies. elisabeth+konrad

He thought she was out of his league. Afterall, when he'd started working on the media team at church with er her, she'd barely spoken to him. As far as Elisabeth was concerned, the new guy had the one thing she had been waiting forever for: a media team t-shirt. Konrad had settled rather quickly to his new role, and clearly he was out of her league. One facebook friend request(he requested her) and a jaunt to Disney World later, the two realized they were a lot more on the same playing field than they thought.

Elisabeth and Konrad were married on the epic 11.11.11, a day nicknamed "wish day". As the music began, sounding Elisabeth's journey down the aisle to where he waited, Konrad swallowed back tears of joy as she beamed brightly back at him. It's been said that wishes are really the "unspoken prayers of the heart". The unspoken prayers of two hearts were answered that day: two people became something they could not be on their own:complete.

Leoni+Laura|lifestye

This past year I had the pleasure of meeting two lovely au pairs at church. One from South Africa, the other from England. These girls quickly one me over with their fun loving ways and mutual respect for all things baked goods. When Leoni's time in America was dwindling down to end, we decided to do a fun little photo shoot so those who she was leaving behind wouldn't forget her lovely face.

These last few are amongst my faves. We had called it quits and then Leoni started prancing around in this perfect light

Our lovely British friend Laura Jane, joined us for the afternoon, so though she's not leaving us until the spring, how could I resist snapping her up too?

Does Laura look familiar? She is often told she looks like and has been mistaken for the actress who plays Lucy in The Chronicles of Narnia

sheesh, you're beautiful! enough already!

Thanks again girls for such a fun afternoon. I haven't laughed that hard on a shoot in a very long time. It's a good thing we're friends or I'd have to be jealous of your ridiculous beauty!

PS: this is just one reason why I love this girls-always dabbling in shenanigans after my own heart.

Internet: Meet beth and brian. Though these kids are not strangers to this blog(see them again here). This is the first time they are making an appearance as Mr. and Mrs.(of 1 year, in fact). When Beth contacted me to get some 1 year anniversary/ Christmas pictures done, I jumped at the opportunity. But the SoFlo(south florida) and her rebellious rainy day ways prevented us from getting this shoot accomplished. Finally Beth said "let's git er done, rain or no rain(<< totally paraphrased) ". So "git er done" we did. And can I just say they pretty much rocked the rain.

Right about the time we reached this point in the shoot, Brian got a text saying there was tornado watch in our area, but we just kept right on truckin'....or clickin', rather

this is classic Brian: always making Beth(and everyone else laugh)

Beth: you're a stunner. the end.

when we arrived at this location, Beth remarked that these palm trees might make a cool photo. So I snapped, and captured one of my personal faves of the day. Good eye, Beth, good eye. =D

melissa+paul|wedded bliss

"I think I met the guy I am going to marry" Melissa said to her sister. She had only just met Paul at the Chick-fil-a where they both were employed, but Paul's heart for God was quickly evident to Melissa. Evident enough that she figured out right way that he was the man that God placed in her life for a very special reason: to be her husband.

The sun couldn't have been shinier in Palm Beach on Melissa and Paul's big day. Excited laughter filled the air as the two prepared for their ceremony. Clad in her pretty lace dress and clinging to her father's arm, Melissa walked down the aisle towards the boy who "had her at hello." Nothing could wipe the smiles off their faces as they pledged to spend the rest of the lives together.

Melissa and Paul, I knew from the first time I spent time with you that I would love being a part of your big day, and I most certainly did. Thank you for welcoming me with open arms to capture your love: for each other, your family and your friends. I pray all best for you two!

lauren+jeff| wedded bliss-PA

He was the strange new kid, and Lauren had her reservations. Junior High was, after-all, a time when being cool was of utmost importance. Jeff, however, was interested from the start. The two eventually fell into the kind of whirlwind romance that only adolescence can produce. But the timing was off and the pair two broke up. The break-up helped Lauren learn one important thing: she was miserable without Jeff. Finally with the right timing in place, the two got back together, and it wasn't too long before Lauren found herself being whisked up to the mountains for a romantic proposal. She said yes, and the rest is, as the say, history.

Lauren and Jeff, thank you for allowing me to be there on one of the most important days of your life and for giving me the honor of documenting that day. I'm so happy you two ended up right where you belong: together

Lauren and Jeff's wedding took place on a day that couldn't decide if it wanted to be sunny or cloudy. Occasionally this beautiful blue sky would pop out.

Bria|2012 Senior

Kids, meet Bria: a beautiful Class of 2012 high school senior. We, along with her mom, aunt, godmother, grandma, and grandpa, trudged out on a overcast evening to accomplish a marathon senior portrait session.

Bria's family also served as her team of stylist. They kept fab outfit after fab outfit coming.

Bria's orange shoes were such a cute and fun pop of color.

we ended the day at the beach, on what might possibly have been one of the windiest days. Bria worked the wind even though it "whippin' her hair back and forth"

I love this one so much. So a genuine moment of her getting tickled. Makes me smile

annie+josh|wedded bliss

Simple elegance. That seemed to be the reoccurring theme. The occasional order to carry out last minute detail would be spoken from her, then back to a sweet calm smile.
Annie married Josh on a day that was filled with all the right ingredients for a perfect day: love and the ones you hold the most dear. Gorgeous weather was just the icing on the cupcake. Their obvious happiness was a contagious element that poured throughout the entire day.
Annie and Josh, you kids were meant for each other. Thank you for allowing me to capture your love. I loved getting caught up in the sweet simplicity of the day you married your best friend. I pray the very best for your new life...together.

Annie and Josh opted for a first look, which not only won them some ericaJ cool points, but also allowed plenty of time for photos.

The sun was shining and the sky was so gorgeous that day. I could have wept.

rachel+phillip|wedded bliss

They were set up. Both Phillip and and Rachel were given those classic "I've found someone you need to meet" speeches. But he lived was in Florida and she was a Pennsylvania girl. It wasn't until Rachel came down from Pennsylvania to Florida to visit a friend that the two actually met and the ball finally started rolling. Rachel discovered that Phillip was quite the gentleman. In the words of Philip "I'd already looked her up on Facebook, so I already knew she was a babe". But as he discovered, just was as sweet and beautiful of a person as she was online. A few months after her visit to Florida, Rachel made the big move from the fields of Pennsylvania to the sandy beaches of Florida....and a whole lot closer to Phillip. And the rest, as the kids say, is history.

Rachel and Phillip, you kids are the sweetest, kindest couple around. I'm so glad you two found one another. I loved being a part of your day, and there to capture the smiles you wore the entire day, in spite of everything. Your day was beautiful up and down, inside and out....just like you guys.

the two opted for a First Look to allow plenty of time for pictures on their big day. Their first look took place inside the sanctuary where they were married to make the moment as special as possible.

before they ended their alone time, they shared a special prayer for their day and their lives together. i loved that! so sweet!

Rachel originally wanted to have her wedding in a sunflower field. When those plans fell through, her wedding decorator extraordinaire, Elisa Stetler(hire her SoFlo-ers!) made sure there were plenty of sunflowers incorporated into the into decor scheme!

these wedding colors were the epitome of sunshine on a rather sunshine-less day

when I was scouting around for good picture spots, I discovered these buses by the church. imagine my delight when Phillip and Rachel agreed to climb inside for a few photos! =D

So if you've been following the blog awhile, or happen to read my tweets, then you know that I've had quite a streak of rainy wedding days. This wedding was no exception. Right after we finished bride and groom formal pictures, the rain came down...all over the already set-up, outdoor reception! But finally it stopped, and thanks to the hard work of many hands, the reception went on as planned. =D

I loved all of the rustic details.

This cake was made by the groom's aunt. Those beautiful sunflowers? Yeah those were handmade AND edible!

Meet melissa+paul. I think you'll find that they are as adorbs as two kids in love can be.

The session started off by the "sea wall" near Palm Beach Atlantic University where Melissa and Paul got engaged. Coincidentally PBAU is also where Melissa and I first met back in college.

then we headed downtown to get a few photos with a more "urbany" feel. I'm in love with both this door and the cuteness of these kids!

brooke+thad| wedding

Out of nowhere he was just always around: chatting with her friends, hanging with her family, and making his way into her circle. After awhile Brooke began to wonder "why are you here?" a whole lot less and began to wonder "why AREN'T you here?" a whole lot more. And the rest is, as the say, history.

Brooke and Thad tied the knot in Tuscaloosa, Alabama on a warm August day. In spite of the faint remnants of devastation from the tornado in the surrounding town, their day was filled with all the beauty and laughter that love is known to possess.

Brooke and Thad: thanks a million for who you are: to me, to others, and most of all to each other. I knew when I photographed your engagement pictures that I would love being a part of your big day as well, and I did! Best wishes as you settle into your new life in Indiana: together.

getting Brooke into her wedding dress was definitely a team effort. all hands on deck!

Brooke and Thad opted for a first look, which I adored. When a bride and groom choose to have a special first look time it relieves a huge amount of stress from the rest of the day and allows for plenty of relaxation...and PICTURES =)

this is why I love these two: not only do they make each other laugh, but everyone around them as well. they're kinda contagious(in a good way of course)

I arrived in Alabama the day before the wedding and saw the reception site before it was decorated. When I saw it again the next it had been transformed into straight up loveliness!

I love when brides have little personal touches here and there Brooke was the definition of a DIY bride. She made this cute little "just married" sign herself. Adorbs right?

From where he stood in the choir, he had the perfect view: a petite brunette named Megan. Phillip watched her from afar and liked what he saw. Soon Megan realized that he was always around. He made a specific point to become a part of her life. It was no surprise that the two soon began dating and shortly after engaged.

Their summer wedding took place in a beautiful old church in Bloomington, Indiana. The day was a beautiful result of Megan's careful planning and attention to detail.

Megan and Phillip: you kids are the cat's meow, the bee's knees, the....well you get the point. Phillip I love how you just adore her and Megan I love how you giggle at his jokes. Thank you for letting me be the one to capture these memories.
